Penelope Jensen

American lyric soprano, native of Denver, Colorado, specializing in Baroque performance and Lieder repertoire; B.A.1963 in Music from Pomona College, where she studied both voice and piano (student of Russell Sherman), M.A.T. 1964 in Education from Harvard University; has performed with such major orchestras as The Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, , , and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. In 1992 she was invited by Robert Shaw to be soloist with the Orchestra Of St. Luke's and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus in the 250th anniversary performance of George Frideric Handel's «Messiah» at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She has sung with Ars Musica, The Bach Ensemble and the Smithsonian Chamber Players and received the Franz-Schubert-Preis for excellence in the singing of German art songs by the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Baden bei Wien, Austria. Currently voice faculty at Duke University since 1988, she lives with physician husband Eric in Chapel Hill, NC, where she maintains a private voice studio.
