Batile Alake & Her Group

Members: Alhaja Chief Batile Alake

Batile Alake hails from Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State. She started her musical career in 1950 playing in the waka band of her aunt, Rafatu Fowosere. Alake had a stint as a backup vocalist with Haruna Ishola the Apala Exponent. In 1956, Alake performed for the visiting Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth. In 1959, she released her first waka record titled EniSubu Parijo which became a hit. Batile Alake, the Iyalaje of Ijebu-Igbo, has released about 50 records including singles, extended, and LPs since her debut in 1959 among which her Iwa (Manners), Ore (Friends), Odun titun wole, Berin ba je ti o yo, etc. The waka exponent passed on in the year 2013.
