Swiss composer, musical ethnologist and conductor, born 5.9.1943 in Grabs, Kanton St. Gallen. After learning to play violin, piano, bassoon and clarinet in Biel and Zurich, Schweizer learned composing music in Bonn, Germany. In 1971 and 1972 he worked in Capetown, South Africa and made ethnological studies on the music of Senegal, Cameroon and Congo. Later, back in Switzerland, he concentrated on composing and wrote numerous musical works.
