Xosé Quintas Canella

Real name: José Veloso Quintas

Galician songwriter and composer (Ourense, 1947). He started his musical career in 1966, working his own songs with the help of Eloy Vázquez hurdy-gurdy, rebec, citole, ute, acoustic guitar, double bass, percussion), and performing around some venues and radio stations from A Coruña. This line-up grew up later, joining Ánxel Barbadillo (lute, guitar) and finally Ánxel Salgado (guitar). They focused on folk music, playing in some folk festivals. Their repertoire was formed, mainly, by medieval and Galician-Portuguese Cantigas. Xosé, Eloy and Ánxel Barbadillo recorded and release an album called Xosé Quintas Canella - Porque No Mundo Mengou A Verdade (1978), with some guest musicians like Bernardo Martínez and Enrique Ferreira, both from Doa. After more than 30 years, he released a new album, Xosé Quintas Canella - Alfa E Omega (2016).
