Former Swiss band of mainstream jazz that was founded in 1953 as Metronom Quartett. The original quartet was related to The Modern Jazz Quartet; The interaction between the two founders, vibraphonist Ueli Staub and pianist Martin Hugelshofer, determined the sound. However, George Shearing's style elements were also recognizable in the group.
