born in montreal, he started going by the name 'rawn bankley' when he was in the ville emard blues band in 1972. later that year he joined contraction, recording a pair of albums over the next couple of years. from there he became a solo artist, releasing a string of albums over the decades, eventually reverting back to the more traditional spelling of his name.
