Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Started playing guitar at the age of four. His father introduced him to the music of Jimi Hendrix who heavily influence his playing style. Moved to New York City aged 18 and was hired by Harry Belafonte for his touring band, serving over 20 years. Met Airto and his wife Flora Purim in the mid-eighties and they formed the group Fourth World. Neto also formed the Netoband (aka Jose Neto Band) who regularly appear at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. He has recorded and toured with Steve Winwood.
