Carmen Déziel

Canadian (Québec) singer born in Sherbrooke on March 18, 1932 and died September 22, 2014. Youngest of five children, she studied at the "convent Sainte-Marie de la Congrégation Notre-Dame de Sherbrooke" (today L'Académie Sainte-Marie). The nuns immediately noticed the young girl's talent for singing during school performances.At the age of 14, she won her first talent competition on CHLT radio in Sherbrooke. She perfected her talents with a small local musical ensemble, Les Joyeux Copains, where she met her husband, Armand Desrochers. Recruited by Jean Grimaldi, she then left for Montréal.
In 1956, his first big success was launched: Mes souliers bleus, the French-language cover of Blue Suede Shoes. The young singer's career is taking off. With the launch of this 45 rpm, she became the first French-speaking singer to record a rock'n'roll piece in North America.
Having become Baptist evangelists in 1967, Carmen Déziel and her husband withdrew from the popular music scene, subsequently releasing a few albums of a religious nature.
