Biography

King Caribe And His Steel Bandits
Effective period / Period of releases: 1957
Members: David De Castro (2)
Montreal-based Caribbean band consisting of David De Castro, Ken Duval, Alan Demontbrun, and Eddy Edgehill, formed in 1955 shortly after the members first arrived (separately) in Canada. They were among the first artists to record calypso music in Canada and were very important in popularizing the genre there. Despite being prolific live performers, they recorded only one album, and by the time of its release they had already undergone personnel changes and changed their name to The Fabulous Calypso Bandits.
