From the coal mining town of Wise, Virginia, Hubert and Jeanette Cooke formed the Cooke Duet in the early 1960's. They released their first recording in 1967 with money from an income tax refund. That original album was repressed in 1969 and many more followed at a steady pace from that point forward. Their three sons each joined the group as they became teenagers. With the addition of the boys the name of the group changed to Cooke Duet & Sons and finally to The Singing Cookes.Jeanette Cooke (Freeman) is from the Freeman family of musicians out of the Norton Virginia area. Her brothers are Rev. Joe Freeman, Barney Freeman (2) and Ralph Freeman (3). Very talented family with many releases out in the Gospel and Rockabilly genres.
