Originally founded as a Traditional dance group in 1984, they became a Bagpipes band. They've performed at festivals such as Castiglione di Lago (Italy), Festival Intercéltico de Lorient (Brittany) and XXX Tydzien Kultury Beskidzkiej (Poland), apart from other venues and events in Madrid, Xacobeo 93 and Las Palmas ("Casa d´Asturies"). Cántara's conductor is the renowned folklorist and bagpiper, Gustavo Eguren Menéndez.
