Perfume is a J-pop/electropop idol group from Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, which formed in 2000. After two singles released only in the Hiroshima area through a small local label, they would migrate to Tokyo in 2003 and started an ongoing collaboration with Capsule's Yasutaka Nakata, who writes and produces the group's material. They remained an indie group until 2005, when they signed to Tokuma Japan Communications and began to achieve national popularity. In 2012, they signed to Universal Music amidst growing international popularity, after their 2007 song "Polyrhythm" was featured in the Disney/Pixar film Cars 2.

Their name was originally stylised in Japanese as ぱふゅ→む on their first two singles.
