Real name: Elizabeth Rimmer

French singer and dancer. Born Elizabeth Rimmer on January 28, 1922, in either Dresden, Germany, or Alsace-Lorraine, a Germanic area of France. Different sources report different birthplaces. Canta Maya worked in Berlin discos in the years 1937-1939, but left the nation for Mexico where she kept on to operate on stage and in at least one movie, "Bailando en las Nubes" (1946). In a 1958 review, Billboard called her "a blend of Marlene Dietrich, Eva Gabor and other sirens of that ilk."
