Die 7 Montenegros

The band was active from 1966-69 in West Germany. Band leader Svetozar Purko Aleksić, originally from Montenegro (Yugoslavia), having left his previous quintet "Die Monte Negros", teamed up with a young band "Ritam" from Novi Sad (Yugoslavia), who had been touring West Germany since 1965, and in summer 1966 they formed together "Die 7 Montenegros". This was their official name although on the record covers they were credited as "Purko und seine Montenegros" or "Das jugoslawische Tanz- und Show-Orchester Montenegro". This band should not be confused with Purko's earlier quintet "Die Monte Negro's", which later transformed into a better known "The Montenegro Five". "Die 7 Montenegros" recorded two albums in Germany and toured extensively in Sweden, Germany and Soviet Union. They disbanded in 1969.
