When David Haffner plays records - people listen. Sparked from a Golden-era 90s Hip-Hop perspective, refined in the deep funk 45 culture of the late 90s, steeped in rare Soul and Disco of all eras, and ultimately set in the subsequent years of opening and operating one of the nation’s premier all vinyl record shops, “Friends of Sound” in Austin, TX, Haffner’s distinct style champions the under-appreciated and lesser heard. His sets consistently incorporate equal parts songs you know already, songs that you feel like you know, and songs you’ve never heard before.

Haffner is the owner of the licensing companies, Magnetic Recordings and The Preservation Project, which specialize in recovering and curating obscure records from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Ranging from styles such as, gospel, soul, boogie and funk; he has licensed his discoveries to a handful of the world’s leading reissue labels.

While tirelessly working on these projects, David had cemented himself as the “Soul Specialist” at Craig Moerer’s, Records By Mail. He has garnered attention from producers and record collectors via his work with labels such as, Athens Of The North, Light In The Attic, Truth & Soul, BBE, and Big Crown Records.
