He played briefly on King Biscuit Time before joining Robert Nighthawks's Band in the early 1950s. He moved to Pine bluff in 1961 and again played with Nighthawk. Because a childhood bout with polio left him without the full use of his hands, he developed an upside-down guitar style, using a butter knife as a slide.
