In the early 1970s the Orchestre Régional De Kayes – which was started after the 1960 independence to revive the local cultures from the Mand and the Kasso regions by turning traditional themes into modern songs – evolved into L'Orchestre Sidi Yassa De Kayes, named after the great singer Sidi Yassa.
