Jonny Axelsson
Swedish composer and classical percussionist, born on May 4, 1963 in Huskvarna.
He started as a composer in the early 90's, but for many he is perhaps better known as a percussionist. During his education at the Gothenburg Academy of Music, he underwent two Diploma programs - as a percussion soloist and in interpretation and work analysis. In his composing, he has found his tonal language to emerge from his experience as a performer and improviser, and through all close collaborations with experienced composers, but also in collaboration with dancers and visual artists. As a composer, he has received orders from various ensembles, choreographers, filmmakers and institutions such as West Deutsche Rundfunk, the String Orchestra Musica Vitae, KammarensembleN and Scenkonst Sörmland. The recorded music includes "Roots & Branches"; an edition devoted solely to his music. Jonny Axelsson is a member of the Swedish Composers' Association.
