Jimmie was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma and Leon in Ranger, Texas. They both grew up in Texas. They started their radio career in San Antonio, Texas in 1938. In 1942, Ernest Tubb selected the boys for his own program over one of the most popular Texas stations.
