Aarne Asser Olavi Vainio ( March 20, 1917 , Kymi - January 6, 2010 , Kotka ) was a Finnish opera singer with a vocal background in bass. Vainio sang at the Finnish National Opera from 1951 to 1972. He has performed in over 80 roles including both bass and baritone roles , such as Sarastro of the Flute , Georges Germont of La Traviatan , Grand Carlos of Don Carlos , Ramfis of Aida, Carmen Escamillo, Baron Scarpia of Tuscany , Don Basilio of Seville , and Wovan of Valkyria .
Vainio was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal in 1967.
