Toots Hibbert

Real name: Frederick Nathaniel Hibbert

Effective period / Period of releases: 1983 - 2017

Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter and guitarist.
Leader of the band Toots & The Maytals, he was one of the most important contributors to making Jamaican music known around the world, since the 1960s. He was one of the first to use the term "Reggae" to define the music genre (The Maytals - Do The Reggae / Take Five).
He recorded almost no Rocksteady because he was arrested in 1966 (on a stunt by a popular singer of the time who was jealous of his success but for whom Toots will never say the name!) and comes out in 1967 with the most famous lock number, 54 - 46.

Born: 8 December 1942, in May Pen, Jamaica.
Died: 11 September 2020 in Kingston, Jamaica.

May appear in release credits as "Frederick Hibbert" or "F. Hibbert."
