Happyness started as a 3 piece band from South London, formed of multi-instrumentalists Ash Cooper, Benji Compston and Jonny Allan. Their approach to writing and recording music meant that roles within the band were fairly fluid, but Jonny Allan and Benji Compston did lead vocals and Ash Cooper did drums. They’ve modeled their sound after American Indie Rock bands of the 1990s, like Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Sparklehorse and Low. Compston left Happyness Feb 2019 for health and familiar reasons and performs solo as Jelly Boy.
