Wells was a professional singer already in the late 1920s, in the late 1930s singing with well-known jazz musicians such as Bunny Berigan, Charlie Barnet, and Claude Hopkins, but didn't make records until 1944-1945, when she recorded for Savoy, as Miss Rhapsody.
