Sonny Clay

Real name: William Rogers Campbell Clay

Early jazz pianist and multi-instrumentalist, born May 15, 1899 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Moved to the West Coast c. 1916, played drums with Jelly Roll Morton. Played with Kid Ory in early 1920s, then piano, sax and drums in own Eccentric Harmony Six (late 1922). Led own bands in Los Angeles area from then until early 1940s. Retired from full-time music in the 1940s.
