Darrel Gene was born and raised on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley of California, and had a habit of singing songs as he worked in the fields. He relocated to SW Missouri (Cabool) sometime in the first half of the 1980s, where he started his own dairy farm and began to pursue a recording career. In 1986, he recorded an original composition, "The Bottle Will," in Nashville, and released it on his own label -- Mule Shoe Records.
