The Darryl Read Group were a British glam rock / pub rock / proto punk band in existence between 1975-1976 featuring Darryl Read (ex Krayon Angels & ex Crushed Butler) on drums / lead vocals, Stevie Forest (ex Silverhead) on lead / rhythm guitar, & Charlie Harty (ex Aswad) on bass. The group acquired a publishing deal with Kenny Baker of Famous Chapel Publishing and recorded a handful songs at Tin Pan Alley Studios in 1975 & Polydor Studios in 1976. Nick Mobbs at EMI Records turned down the group for a record deal and seven months later ended up signing the Sex Pistols. Some time later Darryl Read & Charlie Harty (through a ruse as record label employees) absconded with the master tape reels of The Darryl Read Group studio demo recordings. After the break up of the group Darryl Read would later start a solo career releasing his first solo record in 1980.
