Johnny E I Marines

Effective period / Period of releases: 1966

Members: Ambra Borelli, Urano Borelli, Johnny Borelli, Emilio Crespi

Italian band from Modena, active in the 60s.
The song "Quei Coraggiosi Dalle Carrozze Senza I Cavalli" was written by their friend Francesco Guccini, who tells this story about them:"Johnny and the Marines were an amazing band, which played in uniform: 'Beatles-style' costume or camouflage. They had rifle shaped-guitars. In summer, during outdoors concerts, they also shot rockets into the air, sowing panic. One of them, a syndicalist nowadays, had a machine gun shaped-guitar. The bass drum could open, revealing a (blank) firing cannon. The band took its name from Marino, who used to play with me. In his reincarnation with Johnny and the Marines, he called himself Marino the Gravedigger, because he sometimes performed in a black dress, singing gruesome songs."
