Anton Holzapfel
Austrian organist, harpsichordist, harmonium- and pianoforte player, born 1966 in Schärding am Inn, Austria.
Studies at the Vienna University of Music (today the University Of Music And Performing Arts, Vienna): Catholic church music and organ with Alfred Mitterhofer (diploma 1993). Harpsichord studies with Matteo Messori, Bologna.
As a continuo player, orchestral musician and soloist on organ, harpsichord, harmonium and fortepiano, he has played with the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Concentus Musicus Wien, the Das Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Riccardo Muti, Ivor Bolton, Philippe Jordan, Christian Thielemann and Seiji Ozawa.
The wide-ranging repertoire includes baroque, classical and romantic oratorios and operas as well as romantic and modern orchestral works (including Richard Strauss' "Alpine Symphony", "Also Spoke Zarathustra", Saint-Saens "Organ Symphony").
