The Laymen Singers

American gospel male singing group.
First associated with Sacred / Word label, later with Supreme and Paul Mickelson.
The Laymen's Singers began in 1947 on the radio program "The Laymen's Hour", which began on one radio station and grew to more than 130 stations in the U.S. and abroad. It was broadcast for at least eighteen years. The program was produced by the American Baptist Convention.

Members included:
Ben W. Allen: original singer and later director.
Gil Brink: original singer
Ralph Carmichael: early director and arranger.
Paul Mickelson: early organist & later leader of orchestra & music director.
Joseph Barclay: singer
Don Fontana: organist
Charles Magnuson: pianist
Leonard Fox: original singer and arranger
Art Gilmore: Narrator of radio program & radio & TV master of ceremonies.
Waldo Frank Tucker: founder, show script writer, later producer of show.
