The roots of the Cincinnati, Ohio group go back to the The Emeralds aka Luther Bond And The Emeralds from the 1950s. Charles Godfrey of the Emeralds was a member and Willie King, both after the Emeralds broke up. Meanwhile, there was James Bowens and Bill Smith, who were also members.
Smith and Bowens were part of what seems to be first version of the group, James Bowens And His Agents.
