Australian trad jazz band.

The Australian band 'The Red Onion Jazz Band' was formed in the early 1960's in Melbourne, Australia. This extremely popular band became known affectionately by many names, "The Red Onions", "The Red Onions Jazz Band' and "The Onions". They played all over Australia and internationally. Between 1974 and 1983 the Onions did not perform together but in 1983 they reunited in a benefit for bandmember Bill Howard who had lost his house and possessions in the Ash Wednesday bushfires. Thereafter they performed quite regularly, with festival appearances and occasional gigs in Melbourne. They travelled to Europe a third time in 1992. They disbanded finally with ill Howard's death from cancer in 1996.
