Ethel Caffie-Austin
Gospel singer. Born 1949, Bluefield, West Virginia.
Nicknamed "West Virginia’s First Lady of Gospel Music.”, Caffie-Austin began playing piano at the age of six, singing at nine and by age 11 had directed her first choir.
Founded the Black Sacred Music Festival at West Virginia State University in Institute. Subject of 1999 documentary His Eye is on the Sparrow. Inducted in 2020 into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
