Not since the adolescent heydays of the Jackson 5 in the '70s and the around- the-way smoothness of New Edition in the '80's has a young male group produced such an effusive mix of R&B and pop.
3rd Storee features the infectious lead vocals of 12-year-old Lil' Man and the bubbling harmonies of 15-year olds D-Smoove, Jay -R., and Kevonté. All four have been singing since, well, childhood -- early childhood, that is. Since being brought together, they have been performing in showcases and talent shows around their native Los Angeles, winning more than their share of events.
Five songs from the LA based quartet's debut were written by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, including the first single, "If Ever," an anthemic ballad that boasts rich full choruses, stirring background guitars, and strings. Among the album's other highlights are the street-smart track "Party Tonight," produced by Rashad Smith (Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes) and the contributions of superstar producer Veda Nobles (Lauryn Hill). The album also marks the introduction of Yab Yum Records' own innovative production consortium, Y-Corp
With so little competition in the genre of young male R&B groups, 3rd Storee's rise marks a welcome new epoch for teen fans all over the word.
