The Victorian Police Band was formed in 1897 under the leadership of Constable George Thomas Wescott. They were joined by the Victoria Police Pipe Band in 1936, which was largely kitted out by WE McPherson, hence it still wears the McPherson tartan. The Pipe Band has appeared at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 1975 and won the World Pipe Band Championship in 1998.

In 2013 the Police Band unit comprised three sections; the Victoria Police Showband; Code One (5) ,a Rock and Pop Band; and the Pipe Band; before the showband and Code One were axed the same year.
