Henry Palmer
John Henry 'Jack' Palmer
born Augusta, Ga., 28 september 1901
Great stride pianist with classical training, forgotten composer of hits like 'Everybody Loves My Baby', 'I've Found A New Baby', 'Sweet Emmalina', 'Got Everything', 'Bimbo', and 'Silver Dollar'.
Raised in Philadelphia, Pa. Went to New york, was impressed by James P. Johnson and Fats Waller. Own group with Ocie (trumpet), Tricky Sam Nanton (trombone), Elmer Williams (tenor saxophone), and Emmett McKeever (drums). Claimed to have recorded with Joe Jordan's Ten Sharp and Flats and Margaret Johnson (New York, 1926) Went to Chicago in the late 1920s; played there at the Savoy Ballroom with Walter Barnes's band in 1931. Still teaching music in Chicago in 1970.
