Sam DeKemel

American brass player Buglin’ Sam” DeKemel was born Mathew Antoine Desire’ Dekemel (sometimes spelled De Kemel) on January 15, 1903 in New Orleans. "Bugle Sam" played his bugle in jazz bands, specifically Tony Almerico’s Parisian Room Band, in the late 1940s and 1950s. In later life he was a probation officer, and when he retired from law enforcement, called races at the New Orleans Fair Ground. He died January 6, 1967 at the age of 64.
