Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen. Mandrake were formed by guitarists Cole Hamilton and Lasse Hvidman in Copenhagen in 1979 (under the name of Zyndactyle), and lasted roughly until 1982. They recruited the other members through a national newspaper; Kim Christiansen (vocals), Michael Hillerbrandt (bass) and Niels Christian Maare (drums).
The band were heavily influenced by Judas Priest, and along with Brats were one of the first hard rock/heavy metals bands in Denmark. Mandrake recorded several demo tapes, but they never released an album.
In 1982, Hamilton left the band to join Witch Cross. The Mandrake demo tracks "We Will Be Strong" (retitled "Rocking The Night Away") and "Alien Savage" were rewritten and features on Witch Cross' debut album, Fit For Fight (1984).
