Born in Machala, in the province of El Oro, Lucas (born 1915) and Mario (born 1918) began singing folk music at a young age. They performed in different duos and ensembles until 1937 when they formed the duo Hermanos Montecel. They established themselves in Guayaquil and recorded 20 albums. Later on they were rewarded the Platinum Disc award by Fediscos S.A.
