Hyperion

Members: Corey Romeo, Anthony Brereton, Lara Jorgacevic, Mark Wylie (2), Steve Cole (12), Cruze (3), Jim Georgopoulos

Heavy metal band with hard rock and progressive leanings from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In Greek mythology, Hyperion was one of the Titans (the offspring of Uranus and Gaia, the Earth Mother), the race of gods who held sway before Zeus and the Olympians emerged. Melbourne band Hyperion played a suitably majestic brand of progressive metal in the vein of Canadian outfit Rush. Hyperion built up a cult following on the local heavy metal circuit, and issued two well-received demos. In 1993, the band added Lara Jorgacevic (keyboards). On July 25th 1994, the Def label issued the band's well-honed, melodic debut album 'Inundation', which reached the top of the Melbourne heavy metal charts. Bass player Steve Cole was replaced by ex-Despised guitarist Cruze in 1995 and Hyperion issued the CD EP 'Primal Storm' in June 1996.
