Crown Larks

Effective period / Period of releases: 2013 - 2017

Members: Lorraine Bailey, Bill Miller (29), Jack Bouboushian, Matt Puhr

Stereogum: “Crown Larks threw psych-rock, noise music, and free jazz into one album-shaped pot and stirred until the whole thing combusted."

Chicago Reader: “… drags jazzy saxophone through the muck, discombobulate their limber Krautrock riffs, and strip down the arrangements surrounding their velvety psych melodies till simple keyboard notes are left bare… On the single ‘React,’ Crown Larks nudge a slow-boiling melody built on a somnambulant guitar line until it unravels into a nervy near freakout. The song speeds up and slows down, folding in glimmers of joy and shards of darkness.”

Observer: “… the adventurous, free spirited noisemakers in Crown Larks form a psychedelic rainbow colored by soaring alto sax and flute-driving pirouettes, tribal-centric polyrhythmic action and organ-drenched post-jazz freak-outs on a Kraut-rock bender and topped by the cathartic wails of vocalists Jack Bouboushian and Lorraine Bailey.” (Brad Cohan)
