Kumar Sanu was born 23 September 1957 in Kolkata, India. He adopted the alias Kumar Sanu to distinguish himself from the Indian composer duo, Kalyanji-Anandji. He is a playback singer in Bollywood, who won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Award for 5 consecutive years (1990 to 1994). Like his contemporary Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu is also a recipient of the Padma Shri award, one of the highest civilian honours given by the government of India.
