Real name: Carmine Coppola

American composer, conductor, arranger, flautist (New York, June 11, 1910 - Northridge, L.A., April 26, 1991) of Italian descent (Bernalda, Matera). He was first flautist for Radio City Music Hall from 1934 to 1936, the Detroit Symphony from 1936 to 1941, in the NBC Toscanini Orchestra from 1942 to 1948; staff arranger for Radio City Music Hall from 1948 to 1956. He contributed to the scores for The Godfather series, Apocalypse Now etc. Married with Italia Pennino, he had three children: August Coppola, screen writer, director and producer Francis Ford Coppola and actress Talia Shire. Grandfather of Roman Coppola and Sofia Coppola. The brother of the latter Robert Schwartzman, leader of the band Rooney, has added to his name Carmine in his honor.
