Igor Ushakov is a specialist in the history of Russian choral culture; founder, artistic director and regent of the men's choir "Valaam"; Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1992).
Author of transcripts of musical manuscripts, arrangements and arrangements of folk and soldier's songs for the male choir.
Igor Ushakov was born in Volgograd in 1965.
Graduate of the Volgograd School of Arts (1984).
Graduated from the Leningrad State Conservatory named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (1990) with a degree in "conductor of an academic choir" and "Old Russian singing art".
In 1990 he organized a male choir at the St. Petersburg courtyard of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam Monastery. In 1994 he created the Institute of Singing Culture "Valaam" and the men's choir "Valaam".
While studying at the conservatory, Igor Ushakov mastered the skills of deciphering musical manuscripts, which made it possible to create the Valaam male choir.
