Joe Daniels
Real name: Joseph Thomas Daniels
Barbershop lead vocalist.Born on September 17, 1930 in Troy, New York, Joe began his barbershopping career in the Northeastern District of the SPEBSQSA.
Joe moved to Riverside, California in 1961 and immediately became a member of the Citrus Belters Chorus and a quartet known as the Sidewinders. Joe would sing lead with the quartet. He and the rest of the Sidewinders took their try at the international contest in the summer of 1962 and earned 5th place bronze medals on their first try. That fall they won the Far Western District Championship.
In 1963, Joe and the rest of the quartet earned 3rd place bronze medals. Joe and the guys would win their gold medals the following summer in San Antonio, Texas.
Joe was an accomplished soloist in the quartet. Aside from just singing lead with the Sidewinders, Joe sang several solos in the quartet such as “Danny Boy”, “Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy”, “Dangerous Dan McGrew”, and many more.
After the Sidewinders retired in 1969, Joe along with Sidewinders tenor, Jerry Fairchild, went on to sing together for many more years with the R.S.V.P. quartet. The Sidewinders would reunite several times throughout the 70’s and 80’s.
Joe passed away on February 16, 1987 in Redlands, California at the age of 56. Following his passing, John Sasine would replace him as lead of the Sidewinders.
