Zayda

Real name: Zayda Peña Arjona

Mexican singer (March 5, 1981–December 1, 2007), was the lead singer of Zayda y Los Culpables.

Shortly before midnight on December 1, 2007, an unknown gunman shot Peña in the back at Mónaco Motel in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, across the U.S.-Mexico border from Brownsville, Texas. She was 26 years old.

Zaida was born on March 5, 1981 in Matamoros, a town on the border with Brownsville, Texas. When she was 16 years old, she told her mother Blanca Aidée Arjona about her great desire to become a singer. His mother gave him only one condition: not to stop learning. This is how she ended up in an amateur group known as Rondalla Femenina.

By that time, Zayda was already demonstrating her overabundance of talent. She began to stand out with her original voice, dazzling charisma, bright green eyes and blond hair. This experience helped her get rid of fear and sing in front of different audiences. Thanks to this, his mother allowed him to learn to sing and thus improve his innate talent.

At one of her concerts, she met Lupe Esparza, lead singer of the Bronco band, who became her godmother of music. In 1997, she helped her release her first album, Enamorada. Later, following Esparza's advice, she joined other talented local Mexican musicians to form the group Zayda y los Culpables.
Between 1998 and 2006, Zayda y los Culpables released nine records and achieved great fame.
