African-American vocal group, that recorded for Decca 1939 and 1941.
Members shown in this photo were Homer Smith (tenor), Lowell Peters (2nd tenor), Jay Stone Toney (baritone), William W. Edmonson (bass)... They were known for their sermonettes from "the Little Weather-Beaten Whitewashed Church".

"The name 'Southernaires' was used by two post-1943 gospel groups neither of which appears to be connected with this group [...]" (Blues and gospel records 1890-1943 (1997), p. 847)
