Bryony was born in Manhattan around 1943, to a Cuban father and a mother who was convinced of her abilities. She grew up in the nearby Brooklyn, a started singing from the age of 3 or 4.

Her mother went out to work to earn extra money to pay for first-class vocal coaching for her daughter, her tutor was the late Henry Halpern, second concertmaster to Arturo Toscanini. Learning the basics of operatic and musical comedy voice techniques before concentrating on the kind of high quality ballads that fill her debut album.
