Influential NYC post-punk outfit originating in late 1980 in the East Village. The original lineup recorded their debut EP "Holiday of Love" (Labor Records) in the summer of 1982. After a brief breakup of the band they recorded and released their 'November’s Heat' album in 1984 (France only), which earned the band both album of the year and band of the year honors in the French press. Signed briefly to Barclay Records (France) in the late 1980s. The band is still well known in France which is the home to their strongest fan base.

Certain General has gone through numerous personnel changes through the years with an almost new version appearing in 1985 amidst a band upheaval. Musicians Parker Dulany and Phil Gammage being the main constants and songwriters through the decades. They recorded into the 2010s and toured France in 2016.

They have been called ‘the missing link between Television and Sonic Youth’ while attracting comparisons with the Doors, Velvet Underground and Birthday Party.
