Colonia was founded in 1996 by Boris Đurđević and Tomislav Jelić, two DJs from Vinkovci, Croatia. They hired Indira "Ira" Vladić (from Županja) as vocalist.
The name of the group comes from the ancient Latin name of Vinkovci, which was "Colonia Aurelia Cibalae".
Became a duo after Tomislav Jelić left in October of 2014.
Then Indira Vladić-Mujkić (Indira Levak) left the band in May of 2017, she was subsequently replaced by Ivana Lovrić which was discovered by Luka Nižetić.
