Zach Smith

Effective period / Period of releases: 2018 - 2020

Canadian multi-instrumentalist, writer, filmmaker and producer that began playing in death metal bands in the early-to-mid 2000s as a teenager. As a founding member and as the driving force behind the experimental death metal band Cuff for over a decade, he pioneered and redefined what 'slam' death metal could be over the band's lengthy catalog. As an accomplished drummer he formed the hardcore punk / fastcore band Whisker Biscuit in 2014, and would go on to contribute music to the soundtrack of 'Session', a skateboarding video game.

In 2018 he founded Housewife Records, a boutique record label that focused on releasing experimental music on bizarre formats such as lathe cut Laserdisc and picnic plate records, VHS and more. The label released the first new music in over 10 years from Brooklyn-based art collective P.F.F.R., who created the comedy television shows Wonder Showzen, Xavier: Renegade Angel and The Shivering Truth. In the same year, he recorded what would become his only chiptune album for Materia Collective, a label that specializes in video game music. His label Housewife Records changed names in early 2019 to Static Void Records and continued to release experimental music on interesting and strange formats. He would go on to write and publish his first book 'Tombcrawl' on Static Void Records, an RPG gamebook that was eventually reissued by Exalted Funeral the same year. Static Void / Housewife completely dissolved at the end of 2019 with the final release being a square lathe cut 7" record.

From 2019 to 2020 he co-hosted the surreal comedy podcast 'Kristy Doesn't Know Movies' with Kristy Bryan. It was originally conceived in 2016 with some rough episodes being recorded, but they were all scrapped before the duo decided to try again. The show ran for three seasons and focused on Kristy's total disregard for highly popular and 'cult classic' films. The show featured original music, voice actors, and a character arc about a man named 'Ken' (and later, his twin brother 'Ben') who calls into the show and subsequently ruins everything. It ended in Summer 2020 after 30 episodes with a 40-minute "holiday" special.

In early 2020 he co-founded Black Glove Analog with Steve Rasmussen , a boutique VHS label focused on releasing obscure horror and exploitation films from around the world. He currently plays in extreme death metal band Chasmdweller and dungeon synth / dark ambient project Execration Chamber. The second Chasmdweller album 'Bacterial Lotus' was completed over the course of five days, and was released on physical format by Ohio-based label Life After Death in December 2020. Earlier in July, he released the Execration Chamber album 'Cathedral Of Unbeing' on physical format for the first time through the highly regarded dungeon synth label Gondolin Records, selling out 150 copies in only 15 minutes.

In late 2020 he started a new project called Malgöth with Steve Rasmussen and Donny G that performs abrasive death/black metal. The band released their debut MLP 'Primordial Dawn' digitally in November and was described as 'no-holds-barred mayhem' by music review site Toilet Ov Hell.

Zach is also prominent in the underground Hip-Hop scene as a producer under the name BK Bonez. His collaborative project 'Hail King Fabio!' with Emerg Da MC was released in December of 2021.
